Ynot- something meaningful

Everybody does it at some point today whether you talk about it or not. Even before it became a tradition there always comes a moment when you reflect back on your life or life in general. So I say, why not today? Not only are we passing into another year but passing through the first decade of the new century.

There are going to be the good moments to remember. That’s easy enough. Those are the memories that always remain so very fresh. Have you thought about them enough? Or are they starting to get all fuzzy and glowy like after remembering a dream from the night before? Equally as fresh are the bad times. They’re the ones that still cut through your head and send shocks to your chest. You can try to push them away but somehow they have a way of resurfacing like it was happening at that very moment. Did you learn from those experiences? Are you weaker or stronger because of them? I hope there were more good times than bad for you. I’m pretty sure I’ve been pretty lucky with mine.

Now’s the time to jump on an old cliché: whether the last year/decade was good or bad to you, whether you did a lot or didn’t do much at all, just know that its all apart of the journey. Yikes, I think I gagged on that one a little. It doesn’t matter how many times we’ve heard it, the fact remains that there’s still a lot of truth to it. The great thing about the human race is that we are always evolving and changing. Maybe not physically- that whole “survival of the fittest” thing went straight out the window (excuse the pun) when we found out how to make indoor heating and plumbing available. Socially though we can always strive to be better and achieve higher ideals as long as we try not to focus on selfish gains. Even if you’re not fully aware of it, your life has an aim and it’s usually right on course to whatever it is that you need to do. Nobody really lives or dies in vain. Being a social people, we are always going to touch somebody else’s life and even the smallest ripples can come together to form waves.

So go ahead and look back. Feel pride in your accomplishments, the things you never tried before or the things you thought you could never finish. Laugh at your stupidity, the dumb things you said at the wrong moments or when you had to be carried out of someplace. And lastly, be thankful for the other people that were there making ripples in time with you. Sometimes you clash and leave others behind; sometimes you stick to each other like glue. It’s all meaningful and comes together to form that awesome thing we call life.

If you believe in anything higher than yourself, be chill because your life is all in his/her/their plans. If you don’t believe in anything, then know that scientifically and mathematically nature has a way of balancing itself out- and yes, you are part of that equation. No matter what you experienced, you did it the right way.

So dirt off your shoulders peeps, we still got a ways to go. You probably won’t get everything you want but you should sure as hell try to get yours along the way. Welcome to tomorrow.
